Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths casts Jim Corrigan, aka the Spectre. The heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman will unite for the epic event, with Black Lightning even set to join the Arrowverse.
Several characters have gone by the name Jim Corrigan, with the first dating back to 1940. He was a police detective who was murdered by a crime boss. However, his spirit would not pass into the afterlife and thanks to a healthy dose of rage, he was bonded to the spirit of God’s vengeance, known as the Spectre. In this way, he would act as conscience to the entity responsible for punishing evil-doers. The mantle has been taken up by other comic characters over the years as well, most notably by Hal Jordan.
According to IGN, Stephen Lobo has been cast in the part of Jim Corrigan. The actor is probably best known for his role in Continuum, but he has also appeared in shows such as Supernatural and Painkiller Jane. Although it’s unclear if the Spectre will also be making an appearance, it would make sense for him to show up. Those familiar with the DC Comics event Crisis on Infinite Earths - on which the crossover is loosely based - will remember that the Spectre fought the Anti-Monitor in the story. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased, “Fans of the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic know the Spectre plays a pivotal role. We’re thrilled Stephen is our Jim Corrigan.”
Crisis on Infinite Earths is shaping up to be the Arrowverse’s most epic crossover yet, with one exciting casting announcement after another. Perhaps most surprising was the news that there would be a Smallville reunion with Tom Welling retuning as Clark Kent and Erica Durance reprising her role as Lois Lane. Sadly, Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor will not appear. Batman: The Animated Series’ Kevin Conroy will portray Bruce Wayne and there will also be an appearance by Burt Ward, who played Robin on the 60s Batman TV series. A recent image also teased the potential involvement of John Constantine, though he might just show up at some other point during Arrow season 8.
It seems as though every time viewers think Crisis on Infinite Earths is as packed as it can possibly get, another character is thrown into the mix. While fans welcome every new addition to this event, the writers will likely have some difficulty striking the right balance. It won’t be an easy task to give all of these amazing characters their due, while still telling a cohesive story and granting enough screen time to the Arrowverse’s current slate of superheroes.
