Screen Rant is debuting an exclusive clip from the film Crypto. Beau Knapp (The Signal) stars in the upcoming thriller as Martin, a young anti-money laundering agent who’s forced to relocate to his small hometown in New York. There, he reunites with his father Martin Sr. (Kurt Russell) and brother Caleb (Luke Hemsworth), who are trying, but failing, to keep their farm going despite the ever-changing economic landscape. Before long, however, Martin and his family find themselves ensnared in a dangerous conspiracy involving shady art dealers, crypto-currency sleuths, and criminals who’re willing to kill to get what they want.
Directed by John Stalberg Jr. (High School) and written by Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio (The Signal) from Jeff Ingber’s screen story, Crypto is being distributed by Lionsgate, and will begin playing in theaters and On Demand at the end of next week. In the meantime, we have some exclusive footage from the film to unveil.

The clip is taken from a tense scene in which Martin tries to negotiate for his kidnapped father’s release, using what seems to be a flash-drive (one that no doubt contains important data) as leverage. While they don’t appear in this clip, the film’s cast also includes Alexis Biedel and the Gilmore Girls star’s real life husband (not to mention, fellow Mad Men veteran) Vincent Kartheiser in supporting roles. Jeremie Harris (Legion) further rounds out the ensemble as Earl, a crypto-currency enthusiast turned cyber-sleuth. Most of the cast were confirmed around the time that production got officially underway last summer in New York City.
Russell, for his part, is not at all a stranger to B-movies like Crypto. The actor made his name appearing in similarly pulpy thrillers like Executive Decision and Breakdown in the 1980s and ’90s, in addition to his many John Carpenter movie roles (The Thing, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China). More recently, Russell appeared in Bone Tomahawk, a western action-horror movie by cult director S. Craig Zahler (Dragged Across Concrete). He might not be playing the main protagonist in Crypto, but it’s nevertheless fun to see Russell return to his roots here, following his turn in the family-friendly Netflix Santa Claus adventure The Christmas Chronicles last year.
