This caused some confusion from fans, as there was a scarcity of official word on whether or not this was true. But developer Studio MDHR jumped in to confirm that this is in fact the case, claiming:

It was also confirmed that development studio, Studio MDHR, owns the Cuphead IP.

Although Cuphead is only slated to release on Xbox One and PC and the moment, Studio MDHR also plans to release versions of the game for Mac and Linux sometime in the future. But representative for the studio has reaffirmed to EuroGamer that there won’t be a PS4 version. 

Cuphead was first revealed in 2014 at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, and intrigued many players due to its art style. After some feedback from fans which critiqued the boss rush style of gameplay, platforming segments were added in later on. disliking the boss rush style of the game, platforming segments were added. This comes after a long and troubled development cycle, which was the topic of the Neogaf thread that spawned fan questions about which platforms the game was actually coming to. 

Cuphead’s release date is set for September 29, 2017 and will be available on Xbox One and PC.
