Daredevil season 2 will be hitting Netflix in just nine short days (at the time of writing this) and the buzz amongst Marvel Cinematic Universe fans is hitting a fever pitch. The new season is going to introduce such popular characters as Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) and Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) to the MCU - not to mention, reveal what happens in Hell’s Kitchen after Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) has been locked away in prison.

Now, Netflix has released a new 30-second teaser trailer video that features Daredevil, Elektra and The Punisher providing voiceovers about their individual mindsets, as we see them each “suit-up” for action. The tone of the video also reflects the grim and serious atmosphere that season 2 has been touting. The tag line of the video is “Some Fight The Darkness. Others become it,” which highlights the darker side of vigilantism that The Punisher and Elektra tread on, as opposed to the lighter side that Daredevil sees himself on.

This promo comes shortly after the full costumes for The Punisher and Elektra (as well as Matt Murdock’s new crime-fighting outfit) were showcased on a giant 4-piece billboard in Toronto, Canada and a sleek new image of the three was released on the official Daredevil Twitter account. The inclusion of The Punisher and Elektra are a giant leap towards immersing the Netflix Daredevil series even deeper into the comic book history of the Marvel Universe. There was some fear amongst fans that the iconic skull may not appear on The Punisher’s chest, since we hadn’t seen it in the images or trailers to date. These images, and the new video both affirm that Bernthal’s Frank Castle will don that look in Daredevil season 2, at some point.

For those less familiar with the castles: Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, is a violent vigilante, who takes out the gangland murder of his innocent family on every criminal that he can find. Meanwhile, Elektra is a long-standing love interest of Matt Murdock/Daredevil, but her violent mercenary lifestyle comes between the two, causing them to have a very tumultuous relationship. Matt is bound to have his hands full with them both of these players in Daredevil season 2, for these reasons.

The themes of revenge, violence and aggression are certainly going to be a cornerstone of season 2, but Daredevil is going to have issues both on the streets and in his personal life, as lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) - in particular, in the form of drama and tension with his partner/longtime friend Foggy (Elden Henson). The potential inclusion of Wilson Fisk/Kinpin in the Punisher/Elektra-centric Daredevil season 2 storyline is just icing on that cake, too. When we last saw him, Kingpin had been hauled off to prison, thanks to Daredevil. No doubt, Fisk has revenge on his mind, but with The Punisher in town Matt will probably have to put that particular problem on the back-burner.

Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Daredevil season 2 will debut on Netflix on March 18th, 2016, followed by Luke Cage season 1 later in 2016. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced.
