A Justice League fan edit imagines Darkseid resurrecting Superman (Henry Cavill), with Kal-El wearing his infamous black suit. It’s been more than a year since the film hit theaters, but it remains a favorite topic of conversation among fans - mainly because of the controversy that still haunts it. The first superhero ensemble from Warner Bros. and DC, Justice League united Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and eventually Superman in the fight against Steppenwolf, who was looking to take over Earth using the Mother Boxes. Despite its box office potential, it was a financial disappointment for the DCEU and was criticized for its thin plot and poor CG work.

Even worse, before the movie hit theaters, it was already marred with controversy stemming from the last minute director switch from Zack Snyder to The Avengers helmer, Joss Whedon. While Snyder got sole directing credit for the flick, it was Whedon who had the final say on what fans ultimately saw on the big screen. Because of this, Snyder fans have been clamoring for the release of the Snyder Cut - a version of the movie fully approved by the filmmaker - ever since the flick was released. Warner Bros. has continued to be silent about the matter - with seemingly no intentions of responding to the campaign. This is why some fans have taken to using their imaginations in order to see what Snyder’s original plan might’ve looked like.

From Chris Dawson on Twitter comes a new fan edit of Justice League, visualizing what it would’ve looked like if Superman was resurrected by Darkseid instead of the League in the film. As seen in the 20-second clip, the famous DC villain prompts a black suit-wearing Kal-El to listen to him. Fans in the comments section are digging the video, especially seeing Darkseid and the black suit - both of which were initially expected to appear in the DCEU at some point, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

One of the most anticipated moments of Justice League is the resurrection of Superman, who died a hero during the final battle with Doomsday in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Sadly, while he was successfully brought back from the dead with the help of Cyborg, the execution of the whole thing was lackluster. Fans expected it to be this big pivotal moment in the film, but it didn’t feel that way. The black suit, which was teased by a couple of tie-in merchandise items and even Cavill himself, didn’t even make it into the movie, as the scene was cut when Whedon took over the project.

Since much of Snyder’s original plan for Justice League was changed, it’s difficult to gauge what exactly he was planning for Justice League Part 2. What’s clear is that Steppenwolf’s introduction is the first step toward the eventual arrival of Darkseid, the originally intended true big bad of the overall storyline. And while this particular visualization may not exactly be how things were supposed to pan out, fans remain thrilled that they have this kind of content, especially since there’s very little chance that the Snyder Cut sees the light of day (at least right now).
